Hey all,

I know this might be a silly question, but we'll see: Are the settings for sound schemes and the sounds played for various events in Windows 7 Home Premium user-dependent, or do they apply globally to all users of the machine?

Thanks in advance,
Tyler

They are played for all users. Do you want to finde them, or alter the one you are using? They do several thing, such as if you use Outook a sound will play when you receive new email. When a file is opened a sound plays, or closed. Opening a web page, a program. Logging off or on. Lots of fun. You can customize them as well. Not so silly. Tell me exactly what you want to know about them and I'll tell you.

You answered my question, Wayne. Thanks. I knew about what they could be used for, where to find them (they're in %WINDIR%media), all that...just not their applicability (current user or all users).

Even different user accounts can have their own sound skeme, so it's pretty slick. All windows versions have the same ones if that makes you any differents as well. Enjoy that. I like it. It's not new, because XP had them as well, but to me it's fun. Lol

So that means I could have my user account with one sound scheme, then create another account and give that one its own scheme?

Yes. You can even modify the skemes. Example I want my new email to say You've got mail" instead of a sond, so I am looking for a femaile voice that says it.

In fact I'd gonna set the log on sound to say "don't touch me!" hahaha.
